Dexcool, not cool…

DIRTY HOSE

So no that did not come out of my nose. Eww gross! That is called Dexcool. Its the coolant that most GM model cars have in them. Dexcool when not flushed properly will turn your cooling system into a redish orange nightmare. Oh my. GM got into alot of trouble from this nasty stuff a few years ago. Dexcool was supposed to be a lifetime coolant that did’nt need to be changed. The problem is that once the dexcool breaks down it turns to acid and sludges up everything in the cooling system. Thus causing hundreds sometimes thousands of dollars worth of problems. Pictured below is a radiator core and cap location. You can see the Gerogia clay and how lovingly it has left its mark.

Don’t fret if you ran out to your car and saw this nastyness occuring. This crap can most likely be flushed out and filled with all makes all models coolant. Its a lovely green color and it wont break down and do this.

If you do need to flush it out I would recommend going to a shop that sells the BG coolant flush system. If its super bad you may need a double or even a tripple flush. I know it sounds like a pain but the sooner you get that little goblin out, the better.
